Posted 3 months ago

About Sure Send

Sure Send is an AI-powered, all-in-one CRM built for growing businesses. It brings lead and contact management, email and text outreach, a built-in dialer, smart automations, appointment scheduling, contracts, newsletters, team management, and performance insights into one platform. Customers can customize workflows for different industries and connect their existing tools through an open API, webhooks, embedded widgets, and more than 30 integrations.

Our goal is to make consistent follow-up easier and give teams a clear view of their pipeline, priorities, and customer relationships. AI supports lead enrichment, scoring, pre-call insights, and automated workflows, while built-in email deliverability and Do Not Call compliance tools help customers communicate effectively and responsibly.

About the role

Sure Send is looking for a practical, curious mid-level software engineer to help us keep our CRM reliable and moving forward. Your primary focus will be triaging, reproducing, and fixing bugs across the product. You’ll work through real customer and internal reports, trace issues across the stack, and ship well-tested fixes that address the root cause.

This is a strong fit for an engineer who enjoys debugging, communicates clearly, and can take ownership of an issue from an incomplete report through verification in production.

Role details

Engagement: Full-time 1099 independent contractor

Compensation: $100,000 per year

Location: Remote, with an optional hybrid arrangement for candidates in the Myrtle Beach, South Carolina area. Living locally is not required.

What you’ll do

  • Triage incoming bug reports, clarify missing details, and assess severity and customer impact.

  • Reproduce issues reliably using logs, test data, browser tools, and local or staging environments.

  • Trace problems across a Ruby on Rails backend, React frontend, background jobs, integrations, and PostgreSQL data.

  • Implement focused, maintainable fixes and add regression tests that prevent the same issue from returning.

  • Verify fixes end to end and communicate what changed in clear, non-technical language when needed.

  • Monitor recurring failure patterns and improve observability, error handling, and support tooling.

  • Collaborate with the product and support teams to prioritize urgent issues while keeping longer-term reliability work moving.

What we’re looking for

  • Roughly 3–5 years of professional software engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated ability.

  • Solid experience with Ruby on Rails and modern JavaScript or React.

  • Demonstrated hands-on experience using agentic AI development tools such as Codex, Claude Code, or comparable tools, including reviewing generated changes and independently verifying their correctness.

  • Strong debugging skills and a methodical approach to narrowing down ambiguous problems.

  • Experience writing automated tests and confidence working with an existing production codebase.

  • Working knowledge of SQL and relational databases, ideally PostgreSQL.

  • Ability to communicate progress, tradeoffs, and blockers clearly in a remote environment.

  • Good judgment about when to make a targeted fix and when a deeper architectural change is warranted.

  • A dependable, ownership-oriented working style.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Sidekiq, Redis, background processing, or third-party API integrations.

  • Familiarity with SaaS products, CRM systems, or customer-support-driven engineering.

  • Experience investigating production issues using logs, error tracking, and performance monitoring.

  • Comfort working with Docker-based development environments and CI/CD workflows.

What success looks like

  • Bug reports move from intake to a clear diagnosis quickly.

  • Fixes address root causes, include appropriate test coverage, and create minimal regressions.

  • Customers and teammates receive timely, understandable updates.

  • Recurring issues become easier to detect, diagnose, and prevent.

  • You become a trusted owner of product quality across the Sure Send codebase.

How we work

We value practical problem-solving, thoughtful communication, and steady follow-through. You’ll have room to investigate issues deeply, ask questions, and improve the systems around the bugs—not just close tickets. The role can be fully remote. If you live near Myrtle Beach, you may work in a hybrid arrangement, but local residency is not a requirement.
